LOON

I went for an evening drive, just about 20 minutes outside of Kamloops, BC to see the sunset. I saw this loon swimming in a lake on Paul Lake Road.
Loons are very fascinating. They are noticeable because of their distinct black and white colours. They have a pure black head and their wings are checkered. Loons have a very distinct call. It is very lonely sounding.

DEER

I went for an evening drive, just about 20 minutes outside of Kamloops, BC to see the sunset. I saw three deer standing on the side of the road on the Harper Mountain Road. I would imagine there is a lot of deer in this area. It has lots of vegetation for them and lots of bush too.

BATCHELOR HEIGHTS

It was a nice day so I decided to go for a little drive. I went up the Batchelor Heights Road in Kamloops, BC. It was awesome up there. I never knew it so beautiful. Batchelor Heights is like on the top of a mountain and it is part of Lac De Bois Grassland Park. It is very high up and the view is spectacular as you are able to see the whole city of Kamloops.

Paul Lake Provincial Park

I went for a drive to Paul Lake Provincial Park. It was pretty windy and a little cool but it was still nice to be by the mountains and the lake. I really like Paul Lake because it is very peaceful there and serene.

OSPREY

I went for a drive to the Lac De Bois Grassland Park in Kamloops, BC. I saw an osprey flying over to his nest which was on top of a hydro pole. There was another osprey on the nest already and I am assuming that there are probably baby osprey in the nest too.

SOUTH THOMPSON RIVER

I went to the grassland park and was very surprised to see how much the South Thompson River was starting to rise. There are concerns this year about flooding in the Kamloops area. The ice has not come down from the mountains yet and that will happen in the next few weeks, especially now that the weather is getting warmer every day here. We usually have a lot of sandy areas on the beaches along the North and South Thompson Rivers but right now the water has covered up most of it. In April, I was up in the snow-covered mountains in Valemount and believe me there is a lot of snow and ice to come down off the mountains yet and something else I didn’t realize is that the North Thompson River goes all the way up to the Valemount area.

MARMOT

I went for a drive to some of the lakes in the Kamloops area. I saw some marmot’s sitting on the side of the road. Some of them were just sitting on the side of the road, some of them were running across the road and others were sunning themselves on tires. Marmots are big and furry. They remind me of an oversized groundhog. I never saw a marmot until I moved out here to BC.

Seagull

I went for a drive to some of the lakes in the Kamloops area. I saw this seagull flying in the air. It doesn’t matter where I’ve been in Canada, I have seen seagulls everywhere. They seem to frequent any source of water they can find. I find seagulls to be annoying. They seem to squawk alot.

BLUEBIRD

I went for a drive to the Grassland Park. I was able to get this picture of a bluebird sitting on this sign. Bluebirds are very pretty and very small birds. I’ve seen several bluebirds in the Grassland Park but this was the first time I was able to get a picture of one.

CACTUS

I went for a drive in the Grassland Park in Kamloops, BC. I saw some cactus. The cactus we have here are very small, only about an inch tall. I definitely would not want to walk barefoot in these parts though because it would definitely hurt to step on them. Even these little cactus have prickles.
